This week's f̶l̶o̶w̶e̶r̶ flora in focus is Coral Bells (Heuchera). These guys are reliable four season troopers. They flower in late spring, but their flowers aren't usually much of a showcase. Its their foliage that wins our hearts. Coral Bells are shade lovers (although some also do well in full sun!) and many varieties like the one pictured here have light foliage and beautiful contrast which help brighten up shady spots. This one is Heuchera "Venus" and puts on a dazzling show in the winter when the green variegated leaves start showing reds, purples, oranges, and browns. This year I used some in my window boxes for some evergreen foliage to last the winter. Tough, reliable, and pretty! They don't spread very much so don't count on your neighbors hooking you up with divisions.
