This weeks Flower in Focus is Iris Histroides "Orchid Iris". These are just the coolest damn flowers. They show up before crocus or snowdrops and seem to appear out of thin air.
I planted a few varieties and the first to pop up was "Lady Beatrix Stanley", a dark blue flower with delicate yellow and white markings on them. The next to come up were "George" which are a deep purple color. I also planted "Katherine Hodgkin". You can find a yellow variety as well, but I tend not to favor yellows in my garden.
I first tried these bulbs in my yard last year (planted in the fall before) and was so impressed by them I added another 400 of them this year! I also bought several bags of them to give out as holiday gifts to family and friends. I just can't say enough good things about them. Give them a try, you'll love them!
