This week's Flower in Focus is Magnolia x Soulangeana or "Saucer Magnoila". This flower appears on one of the earliest blooming trees in late winter / early spring. The "mess" it makes under the tree when the petals drop looks like a rose petal path laid for a princess. The large blooms are pink to white and look like a cup and saucer, hence the common name. The dramatic flowers emerge before leaves push out and it really makes a statement this time a year. Not too large at about 25 feet mature height, needs full sun to thrive.
